A vibrant and resilient waterfront, where water reclaims its place and the public finds both adventure and tranquility
Chauveau Park, Québec City’s largest urban park, offers new immersive experiences in grassy areas, woodlands, and along the shoreline of the Saint-Charles River. The biodiversity trail makes the park and river accessible to all, with a long winding universally accessible pathway, an observation lookout, and a showcase of native vegetation. Contemplative waterfront features, recreational areas, including a skatepark and pumptrack, as well as the integration of an artwork, enrich this urban outdoor facility.
A first phase of work, made possible through financial support from the Government of Québec and the City of Québec, brings a new signature to the park. It includes an inclusive trail highlighting biodiversity, contemplative waterfront features, recreational areas (skatepark and pumptrack), and an artwork, all in accordance with the Québec Rivers Enhancement Plan.
A landscape-sensitive approach, balancing citizen accessibility and natural environment preservation, was favoured. The biodiversity trail was designed to cross a vast landscaped slope, strategically bypass the wetland at its base, and connect to the trail leading to the river. It features an observation lookout. A playful and educational narrative about the park’s biodiversity is expressed through thematic groupings of plants and the embedding of graphic medallions representing icons specific to these environments. The exceptional waterfront landscapes, natural environments with high ecological value, and recreational developments form a vast urban outdoor site for all.
