Completion of the diagnostic portrait and identification of the best development opportunities enabled the Mont Gleason team, supported by BC2, to establish a master plan aimed at consolidating its achievements and deploying new four-season facilities adapted to the region’s socioeconomic profile. This approach will help strengthen the economic resilience of mountain tourism in the face of shortened ski seasons and variable snow conditions that create significant operational challenges.

Nestled in Tingwick, within the Centre-du-Québec region, Mont Gleason resort has operated an alpine ski centre since 1968 and offers activities such as alpine skiing, alpine touring, and tubing, in addition to providing free access to 12 km of hiking trails in summer. For several years, the resort has been developing and investing in its infrastructure to optimize its operations, update its services, and pursue a sustainable development approach. Like all ski resorts in Québec, particularly those located in the south of the province, Mont Gleason faces pressures from climate change.

Given the fragility of the mountain sector due to climate projections, in spring 2022 the Québec Ministry of Tourism announced the allocation of an envelope totalling $11M to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the economic resilience of mountain tourism through the “Mountains Plan” program. Mont Gleason seized this opportunity to develop its Mountain Activities Master Plan, to guide and direct the mountain resort’s future developments by identifying a series of determinative actions aligned and compliant with the Mountains Plan program objectives.
