Landscape design transforming the schoolyard into a stimulating, inclusive socialization space that promotes educational values
A stimulating school environment that supports educational objectives. The central courtyard, green spaces, and outdoor learning and play areas promote creativity, physical activity, social interaction, and enhance students’ educational experience. The attention paid to the details of play equipment integration makes this project an example to follow for designing a schoolyard that is inclusive, playful, and educational.
The proposed concept includes a large central courtyard, green spaces, and outdoor learning and play areas. BC2 designed an outdoor amphitheatre, which serves as a mirror to the interior space, and play modules in the same yellow shade as the building. The circular motifs of the building were echoed in the paving stone insertions in the courtyard. BC2 also integrated a series of games and ground elements to encourage movement and activity, as well as a swinging module promoting socialization and collaboration. Special attention was given to universal accessibility, and vegetation tolerant of schoolyard conditions was introduced, emphasizing diversity, survivability, and ornamental plants offering interest throughout the school year.
In creating the landscape design for Marcelle-Robidoux School, the BC2 team sought to design an environment that stimulates creativity, encourages physical activity, fosters social interactions, and enriches students’ educational experience. BC2’s landscape architects worked closely with the architects to establish a harmonious connection between the building and outdoor spaces, resulting in an aesthetic and sustainable whole.
